Welcome back to school! Our 2016-2017 school year kicks off on Tuesday, September 6 at 9:05 AM. The Cafeteria will be open, and all children at NSES are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Breakfast begins at 8:25 AM.
We are holding a Welcome Back Sidewalk Chalk Social on Labor Day, Monday, September 5 from 9-11 AM. Chalk will be provided, or bring your own. Our new sidewalks should be finished and ready for some fancy decorating! This was a great event last year to start the school year off with positive messages and goodwill towards all our students, teachers, and staff.
Tomorrow, September 1 at 1:30 PM are the Pre-K and Kindergarten Orientations. Due to ongoing construction, please use the Glenwood St entrance and go directly to the Cafetorium for a welcome from our principal, Mr. Amodeo. Please feel free to bring in your child’s supplies if you are attending orientation. Unfortunately, this year, due to scheduling issues and the construction, Grades 1-5 WILL NOT be able to drop off their supplies before school starts. Please send in your supplies with your child during the 1st week of school. Remember, teachers do not need every roll of paper towels and box of tissues on the 1st day, so those with little ones can send in a couple items every day.
In District News, Albany High School will commemorate the 20th anniversary of its 1996 Section II football championship this Saturday, September 3 (BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS) before the Falcons kick off the new season against defending champion Saratoga Springs.

Our 1st School Spirit Day will be Friday, September 9. Please wear your Spirit Wear or Purple! Later in the fall, we will be having a spirit wear exchange and a sale for new items. Keep an eye out in your child’s backpack for details.
Our 2nd PTA meeting of the school year will be held on Wednesday, September 14th, at 6:30 PM in the Cafetorium. Childcare will be provided for the children to play in the gymnasium. Please come out and meet your new PTA officers. We will be discussing many items and hope to have some new faces. We will be changing up some of our approaches to getting info about the PTA out to the whole school and will be looking for your help and suggestions. We have some openings for volunteer positions for all kinds of helpers – those with day jobs, night jobs, stay-at-home jobs, caretaking duties, etc. There are many projects big and small that you can help out with. Please message us or email us for more info!
One of the most exciting things coming in September is our 1st School and Community BBQ! Giffy’s BBQ will be cooking up 1/2 BBQ Chicken dinners with baked potato, coleslaw, roll & butter, cookie and a beverage! Our BBQ will be held in the back of the school on Friday September 23 from 4:30 – 6:30 PM. If it rains, people will be able to eat inside, or takeout. Dinners are $12.50 each and must be purchased in advance. Order forms will be due by the end of Friday, September 16. Dinners may also be purchased online at BBQ Chicken Dinner @ Eventbrite.com
Picture Day is September 21. A make-up day will be announced later in the fall. Pictures may be ordered at Lifetouch Pictures starting September 7.
